Professor Pete Shah has an outstanding national reputation in the fields of both Ophthalmic Surgery and Ophthalmic Anaesthesia and has made impressive personal contributions to the safer provision of Glaucoma surgery worldwide.
He has published widely in the areas of Glaucoma and Patient Safety and been in receipt of grant applications totaling over £700K. He is particularly respected for his leadership in innovative patient pathway improvement, his book authorship* and his mentoring skills.
As a council member of the British Ophthalmic Anaesthesia Society and it’s former president he has made particular specific contributions as:

Numerous publications, workshops and presentations on improving safety standards by ‘TeamWorking‘ in ophthalmology – message focuses on the importance of time, team and trust in the patient journey.
He also helps with many charitable foundations such as Sight for East Africa and Athena SWAN, providing mentoring and experience to aid women in science and medicine.
Internationally-recognised leader in the field of glaucoma surgery and an Honorary Professor of Glaucoma at the Centre for Health & Social Care Improvement at the University of Wolverhampton.
Set up the complex glaucoma service at University Hospitals Birmingham NHS Trust and trained 22 Glaucoma Fellows from the UK and abroad in 15 years
Passionate advocate for patient safety and simulation and developed the first wet-lab model for glaucoma surgery.
Leader of the “ReGAE” project (Research into Glaucoma And Ethnicity), which aims to prevent avoidable glaucoma blindness in the diverse communities we serve. Total grants to date > £700,000. [90+ publications – 20 high impact peer-reviewed papers since last award].
Secretary to Oxford Ophthalmological Congress and Council member of British Ophthalmic Anaesthesia Society. Co-editor of Ophthalmic Anaesthesia journal. On Education Committee of the Royal College (RCO) and organise the RCO Glaucoma Sub-speciality Day annually.
